1. Change up your decor.
When winter arrives, we start pulling out fleece blankets and fuzzy throw pillows. Our color scheme goes from pastels and bright colors to soft blues, whites, and grays. We want our place to be cozy — the perfect place for our friends to pack in and sip hot cocoa. We binge watch Netflix shows because it’s too cold to be outside, and we pack our pantries full of junk food and snacks. Our summer bodies don’t have to be ready for months, so we may as well indulge ourselves while we can. But then summer arrives and we want to exist in our happy place, where the windows can let in a breeze and our swimsuits are within reach. The first way you can easily get your apartment/house ready for summer is to change up your decor. Bring back the bright colors. Pack away your gray fleece blankets and put a new comforter on your bed.
2. Do some landscaping.
Whether you have a small patio outside your apartment door, or you have an entire yard that came with your house, adding some plants/landscaping your abode is the perfect way to spruce up your residence for the summer. Whether it’s just small plants on a cute little table or it’s planting your favorites in some real flowerbeds around your house, the colors and greenery will make your place instantly feel more “summery.”
3. Update your color scheme.
If you painted your walls gray, your furniture is bland, and your throw pillows are all the same color, consider adding some “pop” to your life. Fuchsia, yellow, pinks, and bright blues are all good colors to throw into your decor as summer rounds the corner. You’ll come home to a place that feels bright and springy. The weather will have no choice but to warm up!
4. Get rid of decor you don’t use anymore.
Your place can start to feel cluttered if you’re still keeping decor around that you simply don’t use anymore. If you haven’t seen it out on display in the last few months, it’s time to get rid of it. Sell it, toss it: it’s up to you.
5. Engage in some (much needed) spring cleaning.
Go through your wardrobe and get rid of clothes you don’t wear anymore. Whether it was the binge eating you did in the winter or clothing that’s simply gone out of style, get rid of all the things you don’t value in your life anymore. Your place will instantly begin to feel more summer-ready as you take bags full of clothes to donate and trash to the dumpster.
6. Spruce up your front door.
Your front door is like the face of your home. Add some spring/summer decor to your door, and you’ll instantly feel like you live in a place of happiness. Every time you (or a guest) comes into your home, they’ll have to pass by your cute decorations. They’ll have no choice but to be springy with glee.
7. Unpack your summer gear.
Your swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen need to be within reach. As summer gets closer, it’s time to pull out all the pool essentials. When your friends text you to meet at the pool in 20 minutes, you don’t want to be searching for all your pool essentials. Keeping them within reach (and visible) will remind you that these are the happiest of days.
Sometimes it can be tough to take your apartment or home from winter to summer. You definitely need to invest a Saturday (or two!) in making sure you’re comfortable and happy in the place where you live. But more than anything, take some time to really invest in your surroundings. Plant some flowers, change up your throw pillows, and treat yourself to a new bedroom comforter. You’ll feel better after you do it!
